Speedcar / Midget Team based in Perth Western Australia. 2018 / 19 Perth Motorplex Track Champions
3 days ago
It’s been a few days since the WASDA Awards dinner and ive had some time to reflect on the night.
The last thing I expected when I walked out that night was a Life Member pin attached to my jacket. I feel a bit weird having my name in the same list as Tom Watson, Wayne Cover, Neville Lance, Graham Jones. Champions of the sport and legends of the club, and I’m just me. But it’s a huge honor and a privilege. To all who have called and messaged I sincerely thank you, the history of the club and the people on that list is not lost on me.
As a kid, I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would race Speedcars. It was such a pipe dream. It was literally a right place right time moment that just sort of happened all of a sudden so I just grabbed on for the ride.
I choose to help because I love the sport, I love the cars, I love the racing, I love the history and I love the people who are involved who make this sport what it is. I implore anyone to help out their club, get involved to help grow your division which will help the sport get to where it should be.
Being inducted on the same night as my good mate Scott Beattie was also pretty special. We have been through a lot together with WASDA. Good Times, Great Times and Horrible Times. I do truly believe that the club is past all the bad and is on an upward trajectory and I hope to be part of it for many, many years to come.

Four goals![]()
At the start of the 2024/25 season Rob Golding set himself four goals: grab a heat win, finish on the podium in a feature, get a top three in the Perth Motorplex Track Championship and finish in the top five in the season long President’s Cup. ![]()
Now the season is done, three out of the four goals have been achieved, which is certainly a feat to be proud of.![]()
Rob would actually achieve one of his goals in the opening meeting of the season, claiming the very first heat race of the year at the Perth Motorplex. Amazingly, he would double down on this by book ending the season with another win in the finale event.![]()
Rob contested eleven of the twelve WASDA shows this season, including all ten of the Motorplex shows and a trip down to albanyspeedway, missing just the Bunbury round in late November.![]()
His results were strong: seven top three finishes in heat races and from the twelve feature races contested Rob grabbed ten top ten finishes. This included two sixth places and five sevenths, while the two results outside the top ten were an eleventh and a twelfth, leaving him with a very consistent set of results. ![]()
Rob’s season stats saw him with two heat wins (equal sixth overall), he led twenty nine laps in heat races (outright second most across all drivers over the season), led the eighth most laps at the Motorplex (22) and led the second most laps at Albany (7).![]()
Courtesy of these results and with the season points tallied, Rob had done enough to finish third overall in the Motorplex Track Championship, just 10 points shy of second place in a battle that came down to the very last race of the season.![]()
Rob was presented with his Motorplex trophy at an awards night a few weeks ago, while the weekend just past saw the annual WASDA Awards night where Rob was keen to see how he had fared overall. ![]()
Come the awards night Rob knew he was in with a shot at completing one more goal for the season with regard to the Presidents Cup, but with the quality of competition he was unsure. However when the results were announced, Rob was proud to have finished fifth overall, just five points behind fourth and twenty two points behind third.![]()
Although he finished just short of completing his four goals, Rob is still incredibly proud of his efforts this season and at the awards night he was able to tick off another unexpected goal when he was made a Life Member of WASDA thanks to his efforts for the club both on track and behind the scenes for many years.![]()
An emotional and surprised Rob was presented with his pin and was lost for words before thanking all those that have supported him, sharing that he wasn’t done yet!![]()
Considering the team initially looked at this season as one of rebuilding, It has been a successful outing for Rob and while focus now shifts to next year, it is important to acknowledge all those who have supported him this season in My Race Setup, Quantum Collective, Thermal Dynamics Engine Heaters, Greg Thomas Plumbing and Gas, Hyper Industries, Dasco Supply Group, QVEE, Sprint Lubricants - WA, High Speed Engineering, Mills Drainage, Asteel Powdercoaters, Coverall Sheetmetal, AG Composites, SA Media and DTN Media.![]()
If you, or someone you know might be interested in coming onboard as a partner for next season, and want to experience the rush of being involved with a Speedcar team, send us a message as Rob has quite a few options available at all sorts of different levels of support!![]()

Over the past couple of weeks we were able to give some of our partners a pretty cool experience and let them have a drive of our Speedcar at the best Speedway in the world. Its very cool to be able to give back to the people and companies who help us get to the track week in week out. Without partners like we have it simply wouldn't be possible. If you, or someone you know might be interested in coming onboard as a partner, you can experience the same rush. We have quite a few options available at all sorts of different levels of support, send us a message!![]()
We now look forward to the WASDA Awards Night this coming weekend. Then its back into off season prep ready for October. After a rebuilding year this year, we're excited to see what we can do next season!![]()
