Just as Rob Golding and the Golding Motorsport team thought their 2021/22 season was over, they received a last-minute reprieve that will see them racing at the Perth Motorplex tonight in the season Grand Final!

Rob had a string of bad luck earlier in the season and he was left to make the unfortunate decision to park up the Golding Motorsport #15 for the remainder of the season as he got the required parts and repairs completed.

“Our season was done after the motor let go’ lamented Rob. “We tried hard to get back for the last couple of races but it just wasn’t to be! I was sitting at work though and all of a sudden I got this very unexpected but humbling, phone call from Wayne!”

Indeed, that unexpected phone call was from high profile team owner Wayne Cover, and after a brief conversation, Rob has been given the chance to pilot his famous #9 machine tonight at the Perth Motorplex, an opportunity Rob is absolutely stoked, not to mention surprised, with!

“It’s pretty crazy!’ remarks Rob. “I grew up watching guys like Wayne at Claremont. Having been a member of the WASDA Committee for a long time now, I’ve been lucky enough to get to know a lot of them personally. Wayne is a great guy whose contribution to WASDA and Speedcars cannot be measured and I can not thank him enough for this opportunity. I am so excited and grateful to have even been considered!”

Rob headed down to practice on Wednesday night to get some testing in before going under race conditions tonight and when all was said and done, it went pretty well.

“It’s a different package to what I’m used to. Motor wise, we haven’t raced an Esslinger before and haven’t raced or even tried the new style Spike either, so I’m excited for this challenge!”

The team is now well into prep mode and are mere hours away from heading down to the Perth Motorplex for the Grand Final event.“Our expectations are pretty simple. Have fun and bring the car home in one piece, and make sure its good to go for next season for Wayne! Anything more than that is a bonus!”
